About Alice Walker

Alice is a goldsmith and diamond grader with over 25 years experience in the trade.

Her work embraces ancient themes and cultures, motifs and symbols of tribes from around the world. Symbology and simplicity play a major role in her designs.

"There is a huge amount of meaning and wisdom that is lost to mankind in our modern world. I have always been fascinated by what people have used to adorn their bodies - and why. A lot of it is tied up in their spiritual beliefs and was so enriching to their lives - it was a constant reminder to them of their relationship to God and the world around them and their place in it. But now, in this day and age, we are reclaiming and rediscovering much of what was lost, and I notice that more and more people I meet yearn for this wisdom and their lives turn to seek it. I believe that one of my purposes in making this jewellery is to bring to the wearer a sense of joy and personal awareness of their own spirituality."

Besides the use of these ancient designs, Alice incorporates the most unusual gemstones - a lot of them from southern Africa. "The earth is so full of riches - the colours of the stones are truly amazing - I am constantly surprised at how little they are used and how so few people know about them."

Most of her work is done in silver - but she does use gold to embellish them if the piece calls for it. "My pieces are usually quite large.(Why wear something that can't be seen?!) So silver makes the piece affordable - and also you can do so much more with silver than with gold like oxidisation techniques and textures."

Alice has exhibited her work locally and abroad and over the last year she has participated in exhibitions at 'Imagenius' and the '3rd I Gallery' in Cape Town, the 'Mary-Ann Orr Gallery' in Stellenbosch, at David and Lorna Reade's gallery 'The Barn' in Worcester and with other artists in Simon's Town.

Her work is permanently on display and is for sale at the Franschhoek Antiques, Main Road, Franschhoek.

Other exhibitions are occasionally arranged and will be notified on this website.

She takes on commissions for those who appreciate her design style and the quality of her craftsmanship.

Crop Circle Jewelry

When I saw a collection of images of crop circles, I was astounded by their symmetry and beauty and felt compelled to reproduce them in silver.

As I work them out, I want to jump up and down with excitement! The geometry of them is fascinating. Radii and diameters – halves and thirds and fifths – the relationship between 5 and 9 – the way they intersect – the pure perfection of how they work. I have always loved maths. I’m sure there is a deeper meaning here. When I am doing a pattern (not all of them are circles), I’m transported. There is energy here. They are amazingly beautiful in their perfection.

I have been inspired to make a collection of crop-circles as pendants in sterling silver, to be worn by men and women.

The technique I use to show them to their best advantage is called piercing. In today’s quick world of mass-production, finer skills are not often practiced by craftsmen in the jewellery trade. Piercing involves drilling minute holes through a sheet of precious metal, then threading a saw blade, slightly thicker than a hair, and painstakingly cutting out various shapes. It is time consuming and demands concentration and a good eye.

The pieces are made of 2 plates, the top one pierced and then soldered to a base. The recesses created by doing this is then oxidized leaving the high points polished. The contrast between the black and silver is quite dramatic and the pattern shows beautifully.

There are a few theories about the origins of crop circles. Although they have been recorded before the era of clever machines, a lot of people still believe that they are all manmade. And yes – some of them are. But they aren’t perfect. The curves don’t quite follow the line of their full potential. The lines aren’t perfectly straight or sometimes not parallel. And the crop is usually damaged. This is why farmers can get very angry when they discover a circle. They lose a huge amount of revenue. But with the authentic ones, they are perfect – and – the crop remains able to grow up and be harvested at the end of the season. They have also found that the harvest from the actual circle has proved to be highly energized, and could be used beneficently in health products.

So – just how do the authentic ones actually occur?

Eye-witnesses say that it happens within seconds and many have seen ‘light-balls’ zipping around the area where it manifests. And so the theory of extra-terrestrial creation.

There is another theory that relates to electromagnetism. Some of us might have been privileged enough to witness in our science class the effects of sound waves on a skin pulled taut over a box, or electricity frequencies being passed through a metal plate over which are sprinkled grains of sand or metal filings. A frequency is applied, and the grains vibrate and finally settle into a very distinct cohesive geometric pattern. As the frequency is altered, so the patterns change – into an entirely different pattern. And again. And again. No two patterns are the same to a frequency.

Most people think that they only occur in the UK – but they have been recorded in Canada, USA, many countries in Europe and Australia too.

I think it is possible that any or all of these theories could be correct. There is a lot of research being done, and many of the circles have been shown to have great meaning – all of it relevant to our knowledge of sacred geometry and our growing spiritual consciousness.

Each crop circle comes packaged with details of its location and date of manifestation.

You can find my crop circles and my other pieces at Stanford Art Gallery outside Hermanus. I can reproduce any crop circle you would like to have. You can also contact me directly on 082 354 2694, To learn more about the research, these websites will take you further.....

THE MEANING OF CROP CIRCLES:

Crop circles are more than just beautiful and intriguing shapes pressed into cultivated fields.

They seem to be manifested forms of sound and light waves, encoded with sacred geometry and deeper messages for us on the planet at this time.

Producing them as I do in silver, only shows their two-dimensional properties – but in reality, the undamaged bent crop is laid down to create a three-dimensional pattern, sometimes in up to five separate layers.
There is much research being conducted today regarding these patterns that appear seemingly spontaneously in not only crop fields, but also ice, snow and sand. They occur throughout the world, but the highest concentration of them is in southern England, especially in the area where there is a convergence of electromagnetic lines called ‘lay lines’. This area, around Stonehenge and Avebury, has been a sacred site to humanity ever since mankind was aware of his own spirituality.

Although some of them have been made by people, the hoax theory has by-and-large been disproved, so too the meteorological one.

It is found that the bent stalks of a genuine circle doesn’t result in damage to the crop, but it continues to grow up and can be harvested at the end of the season. The seed from the circles has been found to germinate quicker and needs less water than the seed outside the circle. The crystal structure of soil particles has also been noted to have changed.

The electromagnetic frequency in and around the new glyph forms a bubble of energy which can be measured with sensitive electronic equipment. This has caused machinery, video cameras and digital watches to fail. These frequencies also have an effect on us – especially when we walk into a circle.

Besides all these measurable qualities of a circle or glyph, the most profound, and in my opinion, most important factor of them lies in the supreme intelligence that these phenomena epitomize.

These forms make use of universal symbols and sacred geometry in an attempt to reach us. These subjects and quantum physics teach us that today we are not powerless bystanders, but very real co-creators of our present and future – and the onus is on us to take up our responsibility. Perhaps only the very shape of the crop circles, reproduced as I have done, and perceived by the eye, could help us to awaken to a deeper awareness of our spirituality and true heritage.

Anyone who embarks upon a journey of research into these subjects, will be taken to the very edge of creation. We discover who we are really, what our purpose is and the future that awaits us if we are able to listen to the quiet but powerful voices that are addressing us now and have been through ancient sacred texts.
